Telcagepant ( INN) (code name MK-0974) is a calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor antagonist which was an investigational drug for the acute treatment and prevention of migraine, developed by Merck & Co.. In the acute treatment of migraine, it was found to have equal potency to rizatriptan and zolmitriptan. Telcagepant is a novel, orally active and selective CGRP receptor antagonist being developed for the acute treatment of migraine. Telcagepant, at doses of 150 and 300 mg of the oral soft elastic liquid filled capsule formulation, demonstrated efficacy superior to placebo in human clinical studies [9,10].
